5th Graders Cross the bridge

Bridge to Terabithia is a book about two friends who make a new land. It is a great story about how they become very close friends, but it also has an unexpected ending.

5th Grade Worms

The book, How to Eat Fried Worms, is a funny and sometimes disgusting book to read.  We recommend this book because you will laugh and get queasy feelings in your stomach and won’t be able to put the book down.

Summer Reading & Math

Thank you to all of the parents that attended the two meetings on May 13th to learn about the Elementary summer reading and math programs. If you were unable to attend the meeting, look for a note sent home by your teacher.  If you have further questions, please contact your teacher.
In summary, CIPLC has purchased membership with the Math website called IXL.com. for all grade 01-07 students of the next school year. Students log on with a username and password to practice their math skills at their own pace, on their own time. A general schedule was sent home by the teachers to aid parents in knowing what their student should be working on.
The teachers have also prepared membership to RAZ-KIDS.com for specific elementary students over the summer. Each student (with parent help) can log in under their teacher's name and a specific picture password. Once on the site, students can enjoy an array of level reading and even record their own voice as they read certain selections.
Both websites allow the teachers to follow what their students are doing (or not doing) throughout the summer.
We hope to inspire our students to maintain their reading and math skills over the long summer break!

Writer's Workshop Gr.1&2

This quarter, we are pleased to offer Writers’ Workshop to students in grades one and two.  As part of their regularly scheduled literacy block, students participate in daily focus lessons to not only increase their awareness of the steps in the writing process, but to practice specific writing skills such as organizing ideas, making good word choices, constructing good sentences, and using proper writing conventions.  The students are becoming equally skilled at writing both fiction and non-fiction and we are so proud of their progress!
