Below are the list of school supplies needed @ CIPLC for each grade level and subject area. Please notice the supplies needed for participating in sports and music, as well as items to bring back for special school events (Fall Carnival), and fund raisers (PTO, Fundamigos).
School Uniforms
School uniforms (just the shirts), can be purchased in the fall. Please make sure students have appropriate shoes, pants and shorts to wear to school (see parent-student handbook for a more detailed description of school uniforms).
School Uniforms and Dress Code- It is Venezuelan law to have school uniforms. The school uniform is the school polo shirt with the school patch/logo for the top shirt, and navy blue pants, shorts or skirts for the bottom. Denim is acceptable, but no frayed ends or holes. Please make sure that shorts and skirts are at least as long as fingertip length when arms are hanging to their sides.
PreK-Kinder: Bright Red polo Shirts with school patch
Grades 1-5: White Polo shirt with school patch
Grades 6-8: Blue polo shirts with school patch
Grades 9-12: Tan polo shirts with school patch
PE Classes: White T-Shirt with school logo, and green shorts
For shoes, students are allowed to wear dress shoes, tennis shoes, or nice leather sandals with a strap around the heel. No slip-on beach sandals are allowed (such as flip-flops).
School Supplies
Supplies List for 2000-10 (this list was last updated May 2009. The list is normally updated every May, so please check back for the 20010-11 updated list)
Make sure your student in PE classes has good court shoes, and appropriate PE clothing. A CIPLC PE uniform (T-Shirt with CIPLC emblem) is required for PE. The clothing can be purchased at school.
Footwear at CIPLC in general:
Since the kids are on the court most of the time- PE, recess, practice, etc.... Footwear is an extremely important topic. At CIPLC both courts are cement so there is no "give" in them. This means purchasing properly fitting shoes for a hard court and keeping them in good condition is very important. Having good shoes in good condition will help your child avoid injury and improve their athletic potential.
Items recommended are:
-1 pair high tops or equivalent BB/Volleyball shoes reserved for only for after school court sports (good quality)
-1 pair of indoor soccer/Volleyball shoes for only for after-school soccer (good quality)
Note: Either Indoor soccer shoes or BB shoes will be adequate for Volleyball; However BB shoes for soccer or soccer shoes for BB are not adequate support.
-1 pair of cross trainers/court shoes for only for PE (good quality) -1 pair of cross trainers, or casual shoes or just for wearing around (cheap)
Sports/Athletics If a student is going to be participating in any of the following sports, they should have:
Roller Hockey (very popular) - Rollerblades, pads for your knees, elbows, gloves, your own stick or durable blade insert, and a helmet that covers the back of your head (skating helmet is OK).
Basketball - High top basketball shoes, appropriate basketball practice gear
Volleyball - High top basketball shoes (or court shoes, but no running shoes as ankles can be sprained very easily), knee pads, appropriate practice clothing
Soccer & Indoor Soccer - Court shoes (basketball OK, but not great), indoor soccer shoes can be purchased in the states for $ 25 or here for $ 40, shin guards, soccer socks, appropriate practice clothing. Also for soccer on the fields cleats will be required.
Softball - Softball/baseball glove, soccer cleats
Golf - Set of clubs, glove, hat, golf balls, and golf tees
Bubble Makers/Diving - If your student is going to participate in the Bubble Makers (snorkeling and diving), a mask, fins and snorkel will be needed.
Tennis is a sport you can play in the area, but the school doesn't offer it. So you may just want a racquet for fun!
Contact Coach Irvin, Athletics and Activities Director at: cirvin@ciplc.net for more information about what to bring.
Music Supplies
If a student is interested in taking middle or high school band, they might need to provide their own instrument (stringed, wind, brass, etc.) since the school has limited equipment to rent. Purchase of the equipment prior to arrival is highly recommended since the cost of buying instruments in Venezuela is very high, and even finding a particular instrument can be difficult.
Grades 3, 4, and 5 and possibly 2nd grade at the end of the year would be introduced or continue soprano recorder. Even though the school provides recorders on a loan basis, we encourage any students who are interested to purchase their own soprano recorder. This makes it more personal and hygienic.
For more information about what the school has to rent or if you need to purchase an instrument, please contact Mr. Jay Londgren, CIPLC Music Teacher..
